Find what works for you

In my approach, we pay attention to your entire body, as your voice is part of it. Everyone has a voice, and everyone can sing – you can do more with your voice than you might think! In the past, without radio or TV, we used to sing our own song. That’s what kept our ancestors going, it gave them energy during hard labor. And that can still work today!

Working in a group, we are creating sounds or improvising a song, which is called Vocal Painting, or Circle Singing. Listen to an example here.

Group lessons take place in Amsterdam (Cultural Center Meneer de Wit, Baarsjesweg 202, Amsterdam), in Haarlem (depening on attendance), or on location (if applicable). Individual lessons are scheduled by appoinment and take place in Haarlem, or in Cultural Center Meneer De Wit .

What we’ll do

In the late morning session of 90 minutes we’ll jointly move and sing. We’ll pay attention to make and keep our bodies flexible and moving with different intentions. We won’t study any music, maybe an occasional sing-a-long, but make our Own Song with each other, in the moment. Participants experience this as becoming more “zen” in an active, fun way.

Catch Your Breath

Do you want to work on your balance and joy on a weekly basis, and playfully learn more about healthy singing and movement?

What we’ll do

Every week we’ll sing and move together. We’ll pay attention to make and keep our bodies flexible and moving with different intentions. We won’t study any music, maybe an occasional sing-a-long, but make our Own Song with each other, in the moment. Participants experience this as becoming more “zen” in an active, fun way. The weekly rhythm provides opportunity to deepen our exercises. We can also sing an existing song together, or a canon, but without the pressure of having to study at home.

Practical

  • Every Thursday 8:30 – 10 pm
  • Cost: €175,00 for 12 sessions
  • Possibility to continue after 12 sessions
  • Location: Center Meneer de Wit, Baarsjesweg 202 in Amsterdam

Sing Your Own Song

Would you prefer to work 1 on 1, so you can make your own mix of vocal coaching and learning to sing freely? Then choose for a personal 1-hour session.

What we’ll do

It entirely depends on your needs. You can set your goals just the way you like. Do you want to focus on learning to breathe relaxed, how to release your stress, work on your professional voice usage as a speaker or singer? It’s all up to you! We’ll use songs or chants that work for you.

Practical

  • By appointment only, this could be in:
  • Amsterdam – Center Meneer De Wit: Weekly on Thursday nights 7-8 pm, or 1st Saturday of the month at 9:30 am, or in the afternoon between 2 en 4 pm
  • Haarlem: Willem Klooslaan, by appointment only.
  • Cost: € 54,00 per session

About Me

Education

Though I started off as Mensendieck exercise therapist, I couldn’t resist music and dance. As a vocal coach with classical training, I’ve taught for 25 years in my home practice and offered workshops to various choirs, in addition to performances with my ensemble or as a solo singer. While teaching / coaching I have often used music and movement to help people through a difficult phase in their lives, or where affected by certain conditions.
I’ve always remained broadly interested and curious, and I have continued to educate myself with various trainings.

Background

I can wholeheartedly say that song and dance have helped me through a difficult childhood. I couldn’t join a regular singing or dance class, but I just did it. It gave me the power and joy, or comfort, depending on the moment. That’s why I always say: Dance and sing life in all its ways!

After a major crisis in my life with multiple storms I am highly motivated to share this with you: The infinite power of song and expressive movement. A source we always have with and WITHIN us!
